More info

Watercolor was known in ancient times, although in its pure form, that is, without the admixture of dense, opaque white, it hardly existed before the 18th century. It was known to the ancient Egyptians, who used watercolors in color images on papyri. Watercolor was also familiar to the Chinese and Etruscans. Among the Chinese, painting on porcelain resembles watercolor painting in its lightness and grace of color harmony characteristic of the watercolor technique. It is believed that painting on the walls of the Roman catacombs of the first centuries AD was done with water dyes, close to watercolors.

This publication is a short practical guide for those who want to learn how to work with watercolors and reveals some professional secrets.

The author talks about how the “watercolor” technique appeared and developed, gives brief information on color science, talks about preliminary exercises and much more.
