Philip Roth (b. 1933) is a recognized classic of American literature. In recognition of the writer's literary merits, the authorities of his hometown of Newark named one of the squares after him. He is the only prose writer to have won the William Faulkner Prize three times: for Operation Shylock (1994), The Brand of Man (2000) and The Common Man (2007). Roth is also the recipient of the Pulitzer Prize, the National Book Prize, the Franz Kafka Prize and other prestigious awards. He is the author of more than thirty works that amaze with the courage of thought, the depth of penetration into the psychology of the characters and mark an entire literary era.
"The Ghost Goes Away" is the last novel in the cycle about Nathan Zuckerman, who, along with David Kipesh, is bright and original author's alter ego. Eleven years ago, threats from an unknown extremist forced writer Nathan Zuckerman to leave New York. He cut off all ties, renounced the flow of life in order to be left alone with his books. And now he again fell into the cycle of a huge city, tempted by the temptation of the last love, stunned by the meeting with the past, which cries for protection.
