More info

The author of the book, Colonel Wilhelm Adam, served as head of the personnel department of the 6th German Army during World War II. He knew almost everything about everyone, was extremely close to Field Marshal Paulus and was aware of many important events unfolding on the Eastern Front. In his book, he reproduces these events almost daily.

The main place in V.Adam's memoirs is occupied by the Battle of Stalingrad, which, as you know, radically changed the entire course of the war. The uniqueness of this book is that the events described are viewed "from the other side" of the front, through the eyes of soldiers and officers of the 6th Army. It describes the mood of the German army both before the decisive battle and after it, when most of the soldiers already foresaw the tragic finale that ended in the defeat of the Wehrmacht.
