Minsk, 1953. Publishing House of the Academy of Sciences of the BSSR. Publisher's binding. The safety is good. Giovanni Boccaccio (1313 - 1375) - Italian writer, humanist of the Early Renaissance, who, along with his idols - the great Dante and the incomparable Petrarch - had a huge impact on the development of all European culture. "Decameron" in Greek means "ten days". Ten young people, in the midst of a terrible plague, retire to a country villa, where for ten days they tell each other stories - a total of one hundred stories, or short stories, each of which puts a unique brushstroke into the overall picture of Italian life of the XIV century. This translation, made by A.N. Veselovsky, most fully conveys the Italian text. The illustrations (one for each short story) are reproduced from the woodcuts of the first editions of the Decameron.
