From the author

Among the many significant dates, important events, memorable facts that will be presented to Soviet citizens on the days of the 70th anniversary of Soviet power, only two dates, two events and facts are indisputable and not subject to discussion. October 25 (November 7), 1917 and March 11, 1985: the day of the October revolution and the day of the election of M.S. Gorbachev General Secretary of the Central Committee.

In the anniversary year, Soviet history was presented by Soviet historians as an unstoppable path to socialism, divided into five periods: Lenin's, when everything went well and correctly; cult of personality, voluntarism, stagnation (these three periods lasted approximately 60 years), when mistakes were made and Lenin’s instructions were violated; perestroika, when everything again (as under Lenin) returned to the right path of steady movement forward.

This scheme raises understandable doubts among many Soviet citizens (including some historians), and therefore, in the year of the anniversary, voices began to be heard calling on historians to “write the truth.”
