More info

Dmitry Bavilsky's travel book is made up of essays and stories written in the 21st century. The first section of the collection includes "road texts", where at first glance nothing happens. But St. Petersburg, and Tel Aviv, and Alma-Ata, and Burgundy turn out to be a frame for living both the happiest and most ordinary days of one single life. The second cycle of the collection is devoted to trips to the strange and at the same time ordinary Ural city of Cherdachinsk, where the author grew up and from which he once left. In the third part of the book, D. Bavilsky "reveals the technique", describing travelogues of different eras and traditions (from N. Karamzin and I.-V. Goethe to E. Giber and A. Bitov), which for most people replace visiting exotic countries and cities. Reading is also a journey and sometimes a serious intellectual adventure.
