The famous Ukrainian prose writer Konstantin Alekseevich Gordienko is a representative of the older generation of writers, one of the founders of Ukrainian Soviet literature. The main theme of his work is the life of the Ukrainian village. His novels and stories are widely popular with Soviet readers.
In 1973, K.Gordienko was awarded the State Prize of the Ukrainian SSR. T. Shevchenko.
In this novel, the author tells about the growth of the revolutionary consciousness of the peasants of the village of Buimir, about collective farm construction in Buimir and about the heroic struggle of Ukrainian collective farmers for their homeland, for freedom and independence against the Nazi invaders during the Great Patriotic War.
