The book gives a brief outline of the history of the St. Petersburg branch of the Institute of the History of Natural Science and Technology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, established in 1953 on the basis of several academic institutions of the historical and scientific profile. Its founders were highly qualified enthusiasts of the history of science (A.I. Andreev, A.A. Eliseev, I.I. Kanaev, A.V. Koltsov, A.V. Predtechensky, M.I. Radovsky, B.E. Raikov, B.V. Fedorenko). Together with other professional historians who had experience in previous historical and scientific institutions (the Commission on the History of Knowledge, the Institute of the History of Science and Technology of the USSR Academy of Sciences, the Commission on the History of the USSR Academy of Sciences, etc.) and who participated in major projects of the Institute of Education and Science for many years ( G.P. Blok, M.A. Gukovsky, G.A. Knyazev, I.I. Lyubimenko, N.M. Raskin, S.N. Chernov, I.I. Shafranovsky and others), they brought up a generation of historians sciences that created the LO IIET brand and guided its life and activities for almost half a century. Thanks to their selfless work and despite all the ideological developments, political pressure and reorganizations imposed from above, the St. Petersburg school of historians of science managed to remain an integral part of world science, to preserve and increase the traditions laid down by previous generations. Through their work, a huge amount of previously unknown archival materials was introduced into scientific circulation, many forgotten names were returned, and the role of the scientific community of the city on the Neva in the development of world science and culture was revealed. Liberation from strict regulation of research topics and methodology contributed to the reform of the community of historians of science on the principles of liberalism, which led to an increase in the efficiency of scientific work due to the emergence of various sources of funding, the intensification of international relations and joint projects with scientists from different countries. The book contains a large reference material on the staff of the St. Petersburg Institute of Electrification of the Russian Academy of Sciences for the entire period of its activity, a list of monographs and articles, periodicals and major conferences and events held with the active participation of its staff.
