The articles of the well-known Scandinavian and saga scholar Tatyana Nikolaevna Dzhakson collected in this volume are devoted to the reflection of the Russian-Scandinavian relations of the pre-Mongol period in the monuments of Old Norse literature. The first two sections present studies of the royal sagas and skaldic poetry, preserved mainly in their composition, as a historical source in general and a source on the history of Ancient Russia in particular, as well as the amount of "Eastern European" information preserved in them. The third section discusses specific plots that embodied both the knowledge of medieval Norwegians and Icelanders about political, including matrimonial ties between the Norwegian kings and Russia, and the ideas that existed in Scandinavian society about ancient Russian princes and Russia. The detailed reviews published in the fourth section significantly complement the picture of the connections between the Scandinavian and Eastern European worlds. The book will be of interest not only to Scandinavians and historians of Ancient Russia - its direct recipients, but also to source and medievalists, culturologists and folklorists, as well as to all lovers of antiquity.
