The first Russian monograph dedicated to the biography and personality of Wojciech Jaruzelski, which analyzes in detail the factors that accompanied the introduction of martial law in Poland in 1981. The life story of Jaruzelski, his formation as a political and statesman, the motives and reasons for his decisions are considered in close connection with the USSR and Russia and the circumstances in which he was forced to act. The book was written using Polish sources that were not published in Russia and are unknown to a wide range of researchers and readers. "Ten years before the collapse of the USSR, General Wojciech Jaruzelski was able to do in Poland what the State Emergency Committee failed to do in the Soviet Union. The debate about the advisability of introducing martial law in 1981-1983 has been going on among Polish historians and ordinary people for many years. Some believe that that martial law saved Poland from a much more serious tragedy.Others believe that there were no grounds for imposing martial law... archives and books of Polish historians, not translated in Russia" (p. 9, 15, 13).
