The monograph "Ludwig van Beethoven" by AA Alschwang is an essay on the life and work of the great German composer, who played an exceptionally important role in the history of world musical culture. Being an independent musicological study, which reflects the author's views on the problems of Beethoven's style and provides a scientific analysis of Beethoven's most important works, the monograph is intended for the widest range of readers, both professionals and music lovers.
The first edition of the monograph was published in 1952. In subsequent years, editions of translations of the book into Hungarian (Budapest, 1954), Estonian (Tallinn, 1957), Romanian (Bucharest, 1960) languages ​​appeared. The monograph is used as an aid in the study of music history and musical literature courses in conservatories, music schools, universities of culture.
Preparing the second edition of the book, the author revised it, further developed the sections covering the era of Beethoven, expanded the chapter containing an analysis of the composer's last works.
