More info

Nikolai Alexandrovich Milyutin is a significant figure in the history of Russian architecture. In the late 1920s and early 1930s, he took an active part in architectural politics, designing public housing and the theory of social settlement; was a supporter of constructivism and an opponent of the declaratively implanted eclecticism of the "Stalinist style"; his book "Sotsgorod" made him a name in the West. Dmitry Khmelnitsky's book examines Milyutin's activities against a broad background and in a wide variety of contexts; a significant array of archival materials is introduced here for the first time into scientific circulation. The book is supplemented with memoirs about Milyutin, written by his daughter, Ekaterina Milyutina-Rapoport.
