"Poor Rich" is a book about a rich and noble man, whose irrepressible thirst for gold and power has made him a robber and counterfeiter. The mysterious Fatya Negra had a real prototype - a Hungarian aristocrat who secretly engaged in robbery and kept the whole province in fear. The authorities, however, did not take any measures against him, for he was one of the most ardent supporters of the Habsburgs and an opponent of the Hungarian patriots who aspired to the independence of Hungary. The novel was a step of considerable courage: at that time, few people dared to openly criticize the aristocracy and ridicule the rich. Since its publication (1860), the book has gone through a huge number of editions, has been filmed several times, and is still read with great interest today.
