The book is dedicated to a dramatic and little-studied topic - the persecution of the Orthodox Church and the formation of the Orthodox underground in the USSR. The author analyzes the reasons for the departure of part of the Orthodox episcopate, clergy and believers into underground (catacombs), as well as the emergence in the USSR of the True Orthodox Church (known as the “Catacomb Church”), which existed illegally until the collapse of the communist regime. The book is based on the memories of eyewitnesses, the author's observations and publications of leading researchers on this topic. The author’s use of previously unpublished testimonies from followers of the IPC-IPC makes the work particularly relevant and informative.
