Елагин остров

The palace and park ensemble of Elagin Island is one of the most poetic and original in Leningrad. It has an incomparable feature: being part of a big city, it is at the same time closed in on itself, which creates the feeling of a natural area, remote from city neighborhoods.
This is the northernmost of the islands of the Neva delta - it is washed by the branches of the Neva and opens to the expanses of the Gulf of Finland. The combination of the palace complex, river, artificial ponds and sea is unique and distinguishes the island among all European parks created in the first quarter of the last century.

The publication includes historical and architectural essays “Formation of the palace and park ensemble”, “Elagin Palace” and “Elagin Island Park”.
The illustrative part includes color photographs of the park ensemble, the Elagin Palace with its interior decoration, as well as pavilions and small-scale architecture.
