Boris Pilnyak was born in 1894 in the family of a zemstvo doctor. His father and mother were close to the populist movement of the 80-90s. He began publishing in 1915. B. Pilnyak was one of the first to respond to the revolution (collection "Bylye"). He entered the history of Soviet literature with the novel Naked Year (1921), which brought him wide popularity. He also wrote the later "Machines and Shelves" (1925), "Volga flows into the Caspian Sea" (1930), "Ripening of Fruits" (1936), "Salt Barn" (1937) - novels that reflected the events of the revolutionary era, many acute problems of our time.
