"Boris Godunov" is the highest pinnacle of Russian historical realistic dramaturgy. The socio-historical and socio-philosophical realistic tragedy created by Pushkin was a new phenomenon not only in Russian but also in world drama. It differed both from the tragedy of classicism and from Shakespearean tragedy, and from the Western European historical-romantic drama of Schiller and Hugo. To reveal and, to the best of my ability, explain the features of the artistic and ideological structure of "Boris Godunov", and thereby help language teachers in analyzing the deep content of Pushkin's brilliant tragedy with students - this is the main task that the proposed commentary sets itself. It is divided into two parts: the introductory chapters and the commentary itself. The introductory chapters are intended to briefly characterize the main problems and some results of the study of "Boris Godunov" in our literary criticism. The first chapter characterizes the state of Russian drama at the beginning of the 20s of the XIX century and the soil on which the idea of Pushkin's tragedy arose and which determined its main ideological and artistic features. The second chapter is devoted to the question of the nature of the historical material underlying Pushkin's tragedy and the interpretation of this material by Pushkin. The third chapter highlights the main stages of Pushkin's work on "Boris Godunov". The fourth chapter characterizes Pushkin's work on the language and verse of the tragedy. The fifth chapter provides some information about the censorship history of "Boris Godunov", which is an act of unprecedented arbitrariness of the Nikolaev autocracy in relation to the greatest Russian poet. The sixth chapter provides the necessary data on the nature of Pushkin's lifetime responses to the tragedy. The seventh chapter outlines the main stages in the study of "Boris Godunov" in subsequent Russian criticism and Pushkin studies. Next comes the "Comment" itself, arranged in the order of the scenes of Pushkin's tragedy. The "Conclusion" briefly describes the path of Pushkin the playwright after "Boris Godunov" and sums up some results of the study of the issue of the further development of the drama system created by Pushkin in the history of Russian national dramaturgy and theater of the 19th-20th centuries.
