The Tale of the Noblewoman Morozova (otherwise called the Tale, Life), telling about the events of the second half of the 17th century - about the unequal, full of drama struggle of the noblewoman Feodosia Prokopyevna Morozova with Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich and the official church, about the struggle that ended in her death, is included in a circle of literary monuments close to the Life of Archpriest Avvakum, such as the works of Abraham, the lives-biographies of Grigory Neronov, Pavel Kolomensky, Epiphanius, as well as the Tale of Deacon Fyodor about Avvakum, Epiphanius and Lazarus. The Tale of Boyar Morozova originated in the same environment as Archpriest Avvakum and was written in a literary manner close to the Life of Avvakum.
The Tale of Boyar Morozova is the main source of information about this remarkable woman. The publication and research of A.I. Mazunin, who carefully studied the handwritten tradition, make it possible to read this text in a new way. But the Tale is valuable not only for historical material. This is a work of high artistic quality. This monument of ancient Russian literature will certainly be appreciated by the modern reader.
