The memoirs of the Russian emigrant Yu. I. Lodyzhensky (1888-1977) are a valuable historical document that tells about the dramatic events of Russian history in the first half of the 20th century. During the First World War, the author served as a regimental doctor, then head of the hospital of the Russian Red Cross Society in Kyiv. In 1918-20. witnessed the horrors of the Red Terror and participated in the rescue of convicts from the dungeons of the Kyiv Cheka, on behalf of General P. N. Wrangel, he worked in the Russian branch of the International Red Cross in Geneva. In 1924, after the famous Lausanne trial in the case of Conradi and Polunin, Yu.I. The Lodyzhensky and Genevan lawyer T. Ober organized in Geneva the International League to Combat the Third International, and then for 27 years they carried on uninterrupted anti-communist work in Switzerland and other countries. The book opens unknown pages of anti-communist resistance outside the USSR to Russian readers.
