Ojar Ottovich Vācietis (Latvian. Ojārs Vācietis; November 13, 1933, Dumpii farm of the Trapene volost, now the Apsk region - November 28, 1983, Riga) - Latvian poet, People's Poet of the Latvian SSR (1977). Wife - poet and translator Lyudmila Azarova (1935-2012). He went to school in Trapena, then in Gauien. In 1949, while still a schoolboy, he published his first poem ("Tractor Driver"). In 1957 he graduated from the Faculty of Latvian Philology of the Latvian State University. He worked in the editorial offices of the magazines "Liesma", "Bērnība", "Draugs", at the Riga Film Studio. The debut collection Wind of Distant Wanderings (Latvian: Tālu ceļu vējš) was published in 1956, followed by 17 more books of poetry, including 6 collections for children, and two books of prose. For the collection "Breath" (Latvian Elpa; 1966) he was awarded the State Prize of the Latvian SSR (1967). He translated Mikhail Bulgakov's novel The Master and Margarita from Russian. Member of the CPSU since 1966.
