Vasily Grigorievich Yanchevetsky (V. Yan, 1875-1954) created the historical trilogy "Invasion of the Mongols", which included the novels "Genghis Khan", " Batu" and "To the last sea". In the novel "To the Last Sea" the writer sums up the historical outcome of the Mongol-Tatar invasion of Western Europe in 1240-1243. The author talks about the siege and destruction of Kyiv, the cities of the Galician-Volyn principality, Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary; about how Batu’s horde, without meeting strong resistance, having defeated the armies of Western European kings in a few battles, reached the Adriatic and how suddenly the khan turned his troops back to the Volga steppes.

The book is included in the list of “100 books on the history, culture and literature of the peoples of the Russian Federation, recommended for schoolchildren to read independently.”

For high school age.
