More info

Smena is a Soviet and then Russian illustrated popular humanitarian magazine with strong literary traditions. Founded in 1924, it was the most popular youth magazine in the Soviet Union. By the end of the 1980s, the circulation of Smena reached more than three million copies.
Since 1990, due to the fact that the USSR did not have the printing capacity to produce the magazine’s sharply increased circulation (3,500,000 copies), Smena became “thick” and monthly (previously it was published twice a month ). However, she did not change herself in the main thing: morality and intelligence, high artistic taste always remain the hallmark of the publication. Nowadays, the Smena magazine is a favorite family publication for many, many of its readers, and as paradoxical as it may sound, there are still queues for the magazine in libraries today. Action-packed novels and stories, stories and poems by the best domestic and foreign writers, topical journalism, essays and cultural studies articles - all this is typical for Smena as a publication with a pronounced creative position: to be in demand, but not to work for needs.
