Spanish poetry of the first half of the 20th century represents an undeniable historical and artistic community. Historical - for the five poets presented in this volume became victims of the tragedy experienced by the Spanish people: Francoism brought death to three, exile to two.
Artistic community has always been recognized and repeatedly declared by poets, despite any personal conflicts and ups and downs of literary polemics. Juan Ramon Jimenez and Antonio Mochado were recognized, deeply revered teachers of Federico Garcia Lorca, Rafael Alberti and Miguel Hernandez. While not always agreeing with the searches and hobbies of their younger brothers in poetry, Jimenez and Mochado did not hesitate to support young poets at critical moments.
In 1956, the decision to award Juan Ramon Jimenez the Nobel Prize emphasized that in his person the prize Also awarded posthumously are Antonio Machado and Federico García Lorca, who together represent the great lyric poetry of Spain.
