Before becoming a prominent figure in the crime-detective genre, Jean-Christophe Granget worked as a journalist, writing for a number of magazines around the world, then became a freelance reporter. He later founded his own news agency. Grange's debut book, The Flight of the Storks, was published in 1994, but went almost unnoticed, which can not be said about his second novel, Purple Rivers, which was published in 1997. Despite the fact that its appearance on the market was not accompanied by advertising hype, the novel achieved recognition from the reader, became one of the bestsellers. Based on the book, in 2000, Mathieu Kassovitz made a film of the same name (in the Russian box office called "Crimson Rivers"), in which Jean Reno and Vincent Cassel played the main roles.

A small university town in the Alps is engulfed in horror: heinous crimes follow one after another. The police find mutilated corpses either in a crevice of rock, or in the thickness of a glacier, or under the roof of a house. Detective Nyeman decides to stop this savagery at all costs, but, pursuing the criminal, he discovers more and more victims...
