Sergei Aleksandrovich Yesenin (1895-1925) - a great Russian poet, subtle lyricist, singer of his native nature, an expert on the folk language and folk soul, who called himself “the last poet of the village.” His poems contain bright sadness and brave prowess, a rebellious spirit and shackled Siberian ringing, cheerful girlish laughter and bitter tears of mothers who lost their sons in the war, church gospel and anxious thoughts about the fate of Russia in the “harsh, menacing years.” Each Yesenin line is warmed by a feeling of boundless love for the Motherland.
