The book tells about various places in the city of Portland, Oregon (the city in which the author now lives and works) - from cafes to strip clubs, from parks to haunted houses. The work is written not in the usual "countercultural style" for Palahniuk, but in the form of an autobiography. Much was taken from the author's personal experience: phone numbers, addresses of houses and Internet sites, all of them are real.
