This publication is the next volume of the eight-volume collection of documents "State Security Organs of the USSR in the Great Patriotic War". Earlier, in 1995 and 2000, the first and second volumes of the collection were published. The third volume, consisting of two books: the first (January 1 - June 30, 1942) and the second (July 1 - December 31, 1942), includes documents characterizing the tense and heroic struggle of Soviet intelligence officers, military counterintelligence and territorial state security agencies, border guards, soldiers and officers of the troops for the protection of the rear of the active Red Army with the enemy in 1942. The next volume of the collection is dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the Battle of Stalingrad. The published documents reliably and objectively reflect the intensity of the struggle between the state security organs of the USSR and the special services of Nazi Germany and its allies during the counteroffensive of the Soviet troops that continued until the spring of 1942, as well as during the dramatic period of the defense of Stalingrad and the transition to the offensive. The volume includes 525 documents from the archives of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation, the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation, the Federal Border Guard Service of the Russian Federation, the RF Ministry of Defense, the Russian State Military Academy, the State Archives of the Russian Federation, as well as other departmental archives of our country, more than 90% of which have so far been classified as “secret” and “top secret”. The collection contains 42 documents of the enemy. The published edition is of interest to historians, researchers and a wide range of readers.
