In the literary heritage of the outstanding Ukrainian poet and playwright I. P. Kotlyarevsky (1760–1838), the central place is occupied by the poem “Aeneid”, which uses the outline of the work of the same name by Virgil. The meaning of this poem for Ukrainian literature can be compared with the meaning of Dante's "Divine Comedy" for Italian literature.
The text of the poem in Ukrainian is given in the Appendix. The book includes an afterword by the famous Ukrainian culturologist and literary critic V. L. Skuratovsky, prepared especially for this edition, and detailed comments. The book reproduces for the first time previously unpublished illustrations created by Dmitry Spiridonovich Bisti (1925–1990), a classic of Russian book graphics, People's Artist of Russia, vice-president of the Academy of Arts.
