From its very birth, the domestic automobile industry was not isolated from the rest of the world - even in the most difficult periods of history, at the height of the Cold War and open confrontation with the West, foreign cars made up a significant part of the USSR vehicle fleet and were actively used both in the Soviet Army and in national economy. We are talking primarily about hundreds of thousands of cars received during the Second World War under lend-lease, as well as captured equipment captured from the Wehrmacht and its allies. Although it was not customary to mention this in the USSR, captured and lend-lease cars played an important role in the development of the Soviet automobile industry, the rapid progress of which in the post-war period became possible thanks to a careful study of world experience... For many years, working on this topic, literally collecting and processing bit by bit a colossal amount of information, the author for the first time recreates the true history of this auto invasion of the USSR, which left a noticeable mark on the fate of the domestic automobile industry.
