Edward H. Flannery (August 20, 1912 – October 19, 1998) was an American minister in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence and author of The Suffering of the Jews: Twenty-Three Centuries of Anti-Semitism, first published in 1965. Flannery devoted his life to reconciling Christians and Jews and to studying anti-Semitism. In his book The Suffering of the Jews: Twenty-three Centuries of Anti-Semitism, he provided a detailed account of the history of persecution of Jews around the world, without dwelling on the grim details of the atrocities. It covers pagan anti-Semitism in the ancient world, the struggle between Judaism and the early church, Christian anti-Semitism in the Middle Ages in various European countries, the ghetto era, the rise of anti-Semitism in Europe. a modern post-religious world leading to new paganism and the Holocaust, as well as economic, racial, social antisemitism in America.
