A scientific publication of three works by a philosopher, rhetorician, historian, better known as a literary wit - a Roman writer of African origin - Apuleius, who lived in the 2nd century. AD - “Apology or speech in defense of oneself from accusations of magic” - interesting rhetoric in defense of adherents of the magical and inexplicable in Ancient Rome and an assessment of public attitude towards such actions and persons; `Metamorphoses in Books XI` - mystical wanderings and transformations of body and spirit; and, finally, “Florida” - philosophical and edifying, historical, scientific, political, art criticism on various issues in 23 sections. The book was published in the series “Literary Monuments” and is distinguished by an extensive scientific Appendix, including research: about Apuleius - M. Grabar-Passek; About the language and style of Apuleius - S. Markish, as well as detailed comments on the texts of Apuleius.
