Rudy Rucker is one of the leaders of cyberpunk and the writer who actually created this SF subgenre, along with William Gibson and Bruce Sterling.
His SF novels Software and Wetware are among the most influential and important texts of cyberpunk and modern science fiction of the 21st century.
Software: Cobb Anderson, a legendary scientist who was cursed on Earth for his scientific activities, but became a real legend among boppers (robots that have the ability to evolve), lives in Florida, on one of the reservations for the elderly. He is a chronic drinker, his heart is no longer real, it has been replaced, and not of the highest quality. It would seem that there is nothing to expect from life. But then a robot appears, in his own guise, who declares that the boppers from the Moon have not forgotten him, and are ready to help him - for example, to grant him immortality...
Wetware: Stan Mooney is a private detective. The occupation, of course, is not so great. After all, he now lives on the Moon and he doesn’t have many clients. And now, when they offer you a job, you don’t have to refuse.
True, the next task did not foretell anything bad. Find the girlfriend of a scientist who sells plum, the most modern drug. But he still doesn’t know that in his search he will have to make contacts not only with people, but also with boppers...
NB: Readers find the second novel stronger and more vibrant than the first, but many of the realities of Wetware are incomprehensible (or misunderstood) without reading Software.
The publication is supplemented by an analytical and biographical essay by Vl. Gakov “The Mathematical Fantasies of Rudi Rucker.”
