The book offered to readers should contribute to a better understanding of the teachings of Martin Luther (1483-1546) and the Reformation than is still observed in domestic education and science. The composition and sequence of Luther's works included in this collection were determined, first of all, by their undoubted importance for clarifying the purpose and driving forces of the reformation of the medieval Church. However, as the experience of Germany shows, familiarity with the works of the German reformer is a necessary, but not yet sufficient condition for clarifying the historical and cultural significance of the Reformation. This obviously requires familiarity with the teachings that arose later on its basis. The works selected for this purpose provide material that gives an idea of ​​the spiritual quest in Germany over the past five centuries.
