The book includes two sections. In the first, the author critically examines a number of guesses already expressed in this regard by historians, and then on the basis of a detailed military analysis, taking into account all the circumstances: the length of foot and horse marches, the speed of movement and tactics of troops, the connection of specific details mentioned in the poem with specific features one or another area - makes his presumptive conclusion that Igor’s battle with the Polovtsians took place at the confluence of the Orely and Orelka rivers, about 70 kilometers from the city of Izyum. In the section of the book entitled “What is the significance of The Tale of Igor’s Campaign” in the history of weapons. Who was the author of this work”, an extensive commentary is given on all references in the “Word” to weapons of that time and their use. This commentary is interesting not only because it enriches the reader of the great epic poem with new additional information, but also because, holding our attention on a number of seemingly purely military details, it helps us in our imagination to more clearly, more specifically restore the picture of the battle, to see behind the lines of the poem is the battlefield itself, the weapons of the soldiers, their fighting techniques.
Proceeds from the sale will go to charity at an animal shelter.
