As the title of this book suggests, it is an introduction to the Bible for those who have never studied it before. In fact, The Guide is written for first-time Bible readers. The idea that such a book was needed was suggested to the author by Dr. Vladimir Skovorodnikov, at that time the chairman of the education committee of the administration of the Altai Territory. Dr. Skovorodnikov pointed out the need to have a book that would explain biblical themes and plots to both schoolchildren and adults who have an interest in the Bible, but have not yet had the opportunity to study it. The Guide to the Bible is an accessible yet thorough study of the major characters and events we encounter in the Bible. Whether you are familiar with the Bible or not, the Guide will be easy to understand and highly informative for you.

Readers of the Bible for the first time often want to know what time one or another of its characters lived. Therefore, we have provided the Guide with tables that will help you relate certain events and characters to their respective historical context. However, you should be aware that there is no consensus among scholars regarding the exact dating of biblical events that occurred before the first millennium BC. Meanwhile, about a fifth of the Bible is dedicated to this particular time period. Considering it in the book, we accept the earliest dates proposed by scientists, although in other works the preference may be given to later dates. The technical side of dating is too complex to be covered in an introductory Bible course like this Guidebook. We just want you to know that there is such a problem and to understand why other books give different chronologies. We hope that the research you are about to undertake will enrich your knowledge.
