The book includes translations into Russian of two works by the outstanding philosopher and clergyman of the 15th century. Nicholas of Cusa (1401-1464), made by V.V. Bibikhin. The first of them, the dialogue "Playing with a ball" (1462-1463), refers to the late period of the work of Nicholas of Cusa. In it, he reveals the symbolic meaning of the ball game he invented, develops the original doctrine of the world as a mediator between the temporal and the eternal, as well as the theories of the archetypal and exemplary, demonstrating with their help compatibility with Christian dogma, primarily with faith in Jesus Christ and St. Trinity, natural-philosophical hypotheses about the eternity of the world and the World Soul. The second work, the treatise "On the Vision of God" (1453), occupies a special place in the philosophical heritage of Nicholas of Cusa. Representing a guide to the contemplation of the image of Jesus Christ addressed to the Benedictine monks, it teaches the reader, through overcoming the limitations imposed by sensory experience, to know the infinite in the finite, the eternal in the temporal and the universal in the individual. The book is intended for students and graduate students of humanitarian specialties of higher educational institutions, philosophers, theologians, as well as a wide range of readers interested in the history of European intellectual and spiritual culture.
